About the Role:

Monstronauts is seeking a talented Technical & VFX Artist to enhance and streamline our game development pipeline. This role will involve implementing technical art features, creating tools and workflows, and to enhance the efficiency of the art production.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with team leads, Technical Director, and Studio Art Director to establish and maintain streamlined Unity implementation workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with Art Directors to uphold strong visual quality standards and ensure consistency across all implementations.
  • Contribute to monitoring and enhancing the overall art asset production pipeline.
  • Provide technical support and actionable feedback to artists regarding implementation techniques, optimization strategies, and workflow improvements.
  • Keep documentation current for asset naming standards, UI implementation processes, decoration systems, and general best practices.
  • Conduct regular project profiling to identify performance bottlenecks and implement effective optimization strategies.
  • Work alongside Tool Engineers to develop and improve tools that boost efficiency and maintain consistency for art teams.
  • Establish and refine content and feature implementation workflows to support smoother production cycles.
  • Design and maintain advanced tools to improve workflow efficiency for artists.
  • Manage and optimize asset pipelines, ensuring robust asset management and integration processes.
  • Conduct technical audits and performance profiling to identify and resolve issues, ensuring performance and quality across various platforms.
  • Serve as a technical guide within the art team, facilitating a deeper understanding of Unity’s tools and solutions.
  • Conceptualize and implement scalable solutions for shaders, dynamic lighting, and asset management to match a project’s visual look while ensuring the game runs smoothly on mobile devices, consoles, and varying PC hardware.
  • Collaborate closely with both the Art and Engineering teams to research and develop technical solutions that address project-specific and workflow needs.
  • Keep up to date with new tools and future technologies that can enhance the development process, and proactively integrate them into our workflows.
  • Proactively explore and implement new techniques and technologies to push the boundaries of what is possible in game development.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with procedural assets and environments.
  • Proficiency in C++ for custom gameplay functionality and performance optimizations.
  • Skills in rigging and animation blueprints to enhance character interactivity.
  • Knowledge of FX creation
  • Familiarity with procedural content generation to dynamically generate game content.
  • Past experience with shipping console games.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interactive Entertainment, Game Art, Game Design or a related field
  • Proven experience as a VFX/Technical Artist for game development, with strong knowledge of shaders, render steps, graphics, post processing, VFX, and asset integration
  • Must be based and eligible to work in the Philippines.
  • Strong eye for lighting, value, color, details, and the ability to use them in creating beautiful visual effects that support gameplay
  • Expertise in creating custom tools and automating tasks
  • Solid understanding of asset management practices within Unity and experience with technical auditing and performance profiling
  • Demonstrated ability in creating and managing shader programs and scalable solutions for a variety of hardware
  • Keen interest in staying updated with the latest technologies, tools, and other industry innovations in game development
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and creative team members
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your technical art skills and previous work, preferably with notes on optimization and asset management
